Rebecca Grugan is the founder of I AM Montessori, and mum of one three year old boy. After being handed a book from a neighbour, Montessori Madness, Rebecca fell in love with Montessori and what it stood for and went on a search to find something to fit what she needed. In this pursuit she discovered that there were thousands of parents across the country in the same boat. Three year waiting lists for quality Montessori care, lack of information written/ no clarity on what to do for parents, and access to playgroup style classes was limited or too expensive. I AM Montessori started in July 2013, just three months after reading her first Montessori book. Since that time, Rebecca has been immersed in Montessori daily, studying with the Montessori Institute, designing courses to help distribute the information to parents/ carers faster, running Parent Child Classes in Yeronga six days a week, and her biggest project at the moment is Montessori Family Day Care.

 

Driven by the belief that Montessori is the future of education and that children from all walks of life should have access to this method of learning, Rebecca is an advocate for change in the mainstream school system and also in the Montessori community. Giving parents the information they need to implement the method at home from birth, all the way through school (whether homeschooling or mainstream) has empowered parents to feel confident in their choices, and enabled them to follow their individual children and provide an environment where their children can thrive. The future of education is over a century old, and Rebecca is driven to make sure this movement is no longer an alternative but the norm for children of today.
